On the Road with KKG

Being a Leadership Consultant (LC) for Kappa Kappa Gamma means a lot of travel. During the 2025–26 academic year alone, these young professionals will complete some 200 chapter visits to campuses across the United States and Canada. They serve as a vital support system to our collegiate members and advisers.

But if you ask our LCs, they will tell you the travel is one of the top perks of the job. We checked in with our current LCs and asked them to share what life on the road is really like. Pack your (virtual) bags and see what the LCs have to share about a job involving lots of travel.

“I love how many incredible people I get to meet as I travel across the U.S. and Canada. It’s so fun to see what makes all our chapters so amazing, and I especially love hearing everybody’s ‘Kappa why’!”
— Anabelle Dillard, Whitman

“Exploring the country is the best! I’ve knocked off so many places on my travels that I have been wanting to see like NYC, Oregon, Tennessee, and Kansas.”
 — Cat Chadwick, Virginia Tech

“I have learned to be open to new things and experiences, and working with Kappas has shown me just how strong and supportive our sisterhood truly is. This job has taken me places I never imagined, both literally and personally, and I’m so grateful for the growth, friendships, and experiences Kappa has given me! And, this role challenges me every day to step outside my comfort zone, whether it’s traveling somewhere new, adapting to different chapter dynamics, or learning to lead with flexibility! Even though I’m constantly meeting new people and traveling to new places, every chapter has made me feel at home. It’s amazing how connected you can feel to sisters you just met! It’s encouraged me to grow into a more confident, patient, and understanding leader, and I’m constantly reminded of the impact genuine connection and sisterhood can have.”
— Mary Elizabeth Sherling, Auburn

“This role has helped me realize that change is difficult. I was terrified of change my senior year of college. However, this role has allowed me to become more comfortable with it. Every week is different with new people, a new place, and new experiences! Change is never easy, but this role has allowed me to embrace it.”
— Jessica Rodgers, Florida State

These jet-setting Kappas have also figured out their go-to travel items:

“My Kindle and electrolytes! And I can’t live without my reset pouch, always stocked with lip gloss, hand cream, and a rollerball perfume!”
— Rowan

“Noise-canceling headphones and a sleep mask.”
— Annabelle

“Headphones/AirPods: I can’t travel without constant music playing!”
— Sarah

“Packing cubes: absolutely a game changer that allows you to fit more and stay organized!”
— Jessica

“My go-to travel item is also packing cubes! There’s nothing more important to me than organization, and I don’t know where I’d be without packing cubes for organizing my suitcase and my Google Calendar for organizing everything else!”
— Lauren

“Wrinkle-release spray! I can’t go anywhere without this, and it was gifted to me by a chapter! It has made it to several different states with me since. And I can’t live without my tote bag. It has blue trim, of course! I used that tote bag all throughout undergrad for chapter meetings, new member meetings, etc. Now I take it with me to the airport, one-on-one meetings, to lunches and dinners with chapter members, and on walks! It’s always held my Kappa essentials!”
— Mary Elizabeth

“My travel bag! I am not a backpack person. Since high school, I have carried a tote. My travel bag is the perfect combination of practical, professional, and stylish. And I couldn’t live without my team of Leadership Consultants. They truly are a rock for me! They have become true friends and relationships I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
— Cat

Still not sure if you’re ready to pack up and apply? Here’s what our LCs would say:

“Just do it! You can always say no, but you can’t go back in time and change your mind. This is the best career development opportunity and now is literally the only time in your life that you can spend a year (or two) traveling the country and experiencing new places.”
— Rowan

“I also say do it! Serving as a Leadership Consultant develops leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills while allowing you to support chapters in meaningful ways! It’s a very unique opportunity to grow personally and professionally while building a nationwide network of inspiring women.”
— Mary Elizabeth
