Team Kappa Hits One Out of the Park at This Summer’s Fraternity Leadership Institute

Team Kappa gathered in Columbus, Ohio, for a weekend of learning and growing to shape the future of our sisterhood. Volunteer leaders and staff teamed up to focus on and enhance key leadership skills, collaborate with sisters serving in roles across North America, learn more about what’s ahead for the Fraternity, and continue to build on the connected community that ties us all together.

Three cheers for Team Kappa!

More than 220 attendees (including members of Fraternity Council, District Directors, Content Directors, Content Specialists, and members of the Leadership Selection Committee and Leadership and Education Development Committee) spent time over two days hearing from keynote speakers.

Dr. Lori Hart presented an Hour of Power, talking about the ways power shifts when people have a voice and agency. This was connected to our work as Kappas and volunteers, as we help women find power in their voices, teach them to speak up, and show them how to navigate conflict. She also highlighted the fact that relationships built on kindness succeed. When people are kind to one another, it’s the glue that makes it all work.

Angela Costley Harris led the group in learning to ask better questions as a leader. This starts with being a better listener, being present (put down that phone!), not asking complicated questions, and being quiet after you ask a question.

Attendees spent time considering Kappa’s changing landscape and exploring the trends shaping Greek life and the future of the organization. Discussions centered on how Gen Z is reshaping the conversation and inviting us to evolve. Plus, the group was also able to focus on how Kappa cultivates belonging and supports mental and physical health for all our members.

These key takeaways were enhanced by the opportunity to dive into meaningful conversations with team members, share powerful stories, and sharpen leadership tools in an effort to build up Team Kappa for the betterment of our chapters, associations, districts, and committees.

The weekend was filled with meaningful discussions and planning for the future of the organization.

Fraternity Council then led an important discussion on the organization’s 2025–26 strategic priorities, inspiring attendees to join us in moving these initiatives forward.

Those in attendance also brought their philanthropic spirit along. Team Kappa paid it forward, donating more than $7,300 to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation.

And it wouldn’t be a weekend in Kappaland without a little fun. Not only did we have volunteers sign vintage photos (their reactions are priceless), but the group also headed out to the ballpark to cheer on the Columbus Clippers.

Take us out to the ballpark! Team Kappa wrapped up the weekend cheering on the Columbus Clippers.

“FLI was an invigorating weekend where we came together as one Team Kappa to learn, grow, make new friends, and left energized to take on the year ahead,” says Elizabeth Bailey, Fraternity President.
