Go Greek, Go Kappa

Membership Recruitment is an exciting process where you’ll have the chance to meet Kappa Kappa Gamma members on your campus. During Recruitment, you’ll connect with current members who can share their experiences, answer your questions, and help you envision what being part of a sorority could look like for you. Think of it as a glimpse into the sisterhood, support, and opportunities you’ll find in Kappa Kappa Gamma.

Primary Recruitment

Primary Recruitment, also known as Formal Recruitment, is a structured process that typically takes place at the beginning of the fall or spring term, depending on your campus. It’s an exciting opportunity for potential new members (PNMs) to meet representatives from all the sororities in your college’s Panhellenic community, including Kappa Kappa Gamma.

During this process, you’ll attend a series of events designed to introduce you to the values, sisterhood, and opportunities each sorority offers. Each round becomes more focused as you build connections and discover which organization feels like the best fit for you. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to ask questions about things like time commitments, finances, events, and more.

Primary Recruitment culminates in Bid Day, when invitations to join a chapter are sent out and where the journey in a supportive and empowering sisterhood begins. It’s an unforgettable experience that opens the door to a lifetime of connection, growth, and opportunity.

Continuous Open Bidding (COB)

Continuous Open Bidding, or COB, is a more relaxed and informal recruitment process that happens outside of Primary Recruitment. It’s an opportunity for women to join a sorority like Kappa Kappa Gamma at times when chapters are looking to welcome new members.

Unlike the structured format of Primary Recruitment, COB allows you to connect with chapter members in a more casual setting. Events might include coffee dates, small gatherings, or chapter-hosted activities where you can get to know Kappa members and learn about what makes our sisterhood special.

COB is an excellent option if you missed Primary Recruitment or are looking for a more flexible way to explore sorority life. It’s all about finding the right fit in an approachable and personalized way. Curious to learn more about COB? Connect with your Panhellenic office to see if your campus organizations participate in COB.

“From the moment I walked in, I felt a sense of belonging.”

“When I went through Formal Recruitment, I was unsure about joining a sorority, but when I met the Kappa girls, I knew it was the perfect fit. From the moment I walked in, I felt a sense of belonging that I hadn’t expected. Their warmth and authenticity made me feel at home, and I was inspired by how hardworking and genuine they are. Hearing about their amazing contributions to the community and their future goals motivated me. In Kappa, I’ve found not just a supportive community but also comfort during overwhelming times. Whether I need a break from studying or someone to talk to, my Kappa sisters are always there for me. Thank you, Kappa, for welcoming me with open arms!” – Ria Atwal, British Columbia

“What I love most about Kappa is how unique each of us are.”

“When I joined Kappa, I wasn’t sure what to expect from sorority life. From day one, I’ve been surrounded by the most genuine love, support, and friendship. What I love most about Kappa is how unique each of us are. We come from all kinds of backgrounds, majors, and interests, but together we uplift one another and have the best time doing it.” – Avery Boen, Carnegie Mellon

“Kappa has helped me find my people for life.”

“I could not be more grateful for all that Kappa has done for me. When I decided to go through Recruitment, I thought I was just making a fun decision. I can wholeheartedly say it has been life changing. I didn’t think I could love Kappa more, and then I stepped into the role of President and was proven wrong in the best way. I have watched my sisters come together and have witnessed such incredible teamwork and strength. I admire these women so much. Kappa has helped me find my place in Richmond, my people for life, and myself. I owe Kappa the biggest thank you in the world.” – Natalie Nocella, Richmond

“Kappa has given me a home away from home.”

“Mental health is key to everyone’s well-being. I am humbled by [the Philanthropy Director] position, and there is no better feeling than serving a cause that genuinely impacts every single person. I’ve always strived to love others and love well, and I’m so thankful to Kappa for giving me a space to do so! I’m especially thankful for our leadership team. These women are the best support system and they can truly accomplish anything! Kappa has given me a home away from home, a family, a community, and so much more.” – Meryl Henderson, Clemson

“I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something this great.”

“I went Kappa because I knew that these were the women I was going to feel the most connected with. I had no idea what I was doing during Recruitment, but when I visited Kappa for the first time, I knew deep down it was the one. The women I talked to were kind, funny, intelligent, and everything I aspired to be. I could see the wonderful friendships they shared and I wanted to be part of that. I stayed Kappa because these women have continued to be the welcoming, supportive, and genuine people I met on the first day of Recruitment. Over time, Kappa has helped me learn and grow in so many important ways. Kappa teaches you how to be a leader, a listening ear and shoulder to cry on, and to embrace your true self. My life would be much different had I not joined Kappa, and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something this great.” – Devany Maldonado, North Texas

Membership references, sometimes called recommendation letters, are written by Kappa alumnae to introduce a potential new member (PNM) to a chapter during the recruitment process. These references help chapters learn more about your character, achievements, and why you’d make a great addition to the sisterhood.

While references are not required, they can be a helpful part of the process. If you don’t know a Kappa alumna personally, don’t worry — many chapters and alumna organizations are happy to assist you in securing a reference.
