Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity Council Statement on Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization

6/27/2022

DUBLIN, Ohio (June 27, 2022)–This past weekend, Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity leadership met at its General Convention to elect and install a new Fraternity Council. It was during this time that the ruling was announced from the U.S. Supreme Court regarding the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. While the outgoing Kappa President addressed the Convention body in person over the weekend, the newly elected Fraternity Council is releasing this statement today following their transition into leadership:

“Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded more than 150 years ago on the principles of integrity, respect and regard for others. We will hold steadfast to those principles in dealing with the incredibly difficult and personal topic brought about by the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the Dobbs v. Jackson case.

This ruling will have a fundamental impact on women throughout the United States and will disproportionately impact women across socioeconomic status, and particularly those with marginalized identities. Kappa Kappa Gamma believes that preserving women’s rights means maintaining the ability for women to make decisions regarding their health and bodily autonomy.

We recognize our members will continue to need time and space to process this news and its impact on their own lives and on the lives of others. Kappa Kappa Gamma cares deeply about our members’ physical, emotional and psychological well-being, and we support our members through mental health resources and our philanthropy, education and chapter programs.”
