Kappa Leadership Conference

2/10 - 2/12/2023

Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Dallas

It’s time to connect, personally.

After years of Zoom life, we’re stepping away from our screens and traveling to Texas to share ideas, build relationships and grow together. And we hope you’re as excited as we are!

This year’s Kappa Leadership Conference is going to be different because we’re all different. It’s going to challenge us, encourage us and connect us.

As an attendee, you get to experience Kappa like never before. From the members you’ll meet to the opportunities you’ll receive, KLC is the possibility you’ve been waiting for.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve listed out everything you’ll need to know to prepare for a weekend full of Kappa connections and conversations at KLC. If you still have lingering questions, drop us a note at klc@kappa.org.

Each chapter gets to send its chapter President and three additional Executive Board officers. Since each Executive Board can decide among themselves which three other Executive Board members will attend, there’s a who’s who of sisters to meet.

Not only will you get to meet chapter officers from all over North America but you will also get to connect with Kappa Headquarters staff, district volunteers, and facilitators. Throughout the weekend, you’ll discover first-hand the great, big web of support that exists within Kappa.

* We recommend sending your incoming chapter President and three vice presidents. If you still need help determining which four Executive Board members will attend, chat with your District Director.

Your chapter has covered the cost of registration, transportation, hotel and meals for all four chapter officers to attend. For more details on how the costs break down, read on:

Cost Associated With Driving to KLC:

Officers who will be driving to and from KLC should charge any travel-related expenses, such as gas, to your chapter credit card or submit a request for reimbursement from your chapter.

Cost Associated With Flying to KLC:

Chapter officers who are flying to and from KLC will be responsible for coordinating their transportation between their campus and the airport and are encouraged to rideshare. Please charge these expenses to your chapter credit card or submit a request for reimbursement from your chapter.

Important Note About Changing Your Flight:

Any participant changes after air travel itineraries have been booked will be the financial responsibility of the chapter. Please note purchased airline tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

You must be logged in to register and will need to register on the Kappa registration site prior to Dec. 7. We highly recommend that you register at the same time as your fellow officers since that helps ensure all your travel details are the same.

Once you have registered, you will receive a confirmation email. This confirmation email will include information on your air travel, if you are traveling by air to KLC.

First things first, you’ll need the address of the hotel:

Gaylord Texan Resort and Conference Center
1501 Gaylord Trail, Grapevine, Texas 76051

Depending on your campus’ distance from Dallas, you and your fellow chapter officers may be designated to drive or catch a flight to KLC. If you are unsure whether your chapter will be driving or flying, we’ve made a handy list to reference.

Officers who will be driving to and from KLC should charge any travel-related expenses, such as gas and daily on-site parking, to your chapter credit card or submit a request for reimbursement from your chapter.

You may arrive at the hotel as early as 1 p.m. CT on Friday. Please plan to arrive no later than 4:30 p.m. CT so you have plenty of time to settle in before the welcome dinner at 6:30 p.m. CT. For more details, read on:

Driving

Road trip! If you are driving, plan on coordinating with all of the officers attending from your chapter so you can share a ride. Don’t forget the essentials: yummy snacks, a playlist, and excitement for the weekend ahead!

If you don’t have a chapter credit card, keep receipts from the gas station or toll roads so they can be reimbursed. Pro tip: Most toll booths only take cash, so travel with a few bucks.

Flying

If you are flying, you‘ll submit all of your travel-related information during the Kappa registration process. From there, our trusty travel partners, Direct Travel, will use that information to secure your flights. Please note purchased airline tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

Just a heads up: While we can’t guarantee that members from the same chapter will be on the same flight, registering together will help make flying together more likely.

Your chapter will cover the cost of getting you to your home airport and back to campus. We recommend ordering a rideshare rather than parking as it tends to be more cost-effective.

Baggage

If you are flying, plan to pack light. Baggage fees will not be reimbursed.

Getting to the Hotel From the Dallas Fort Worth Airport on Friday:

All attendees arriving at the Dallas Fort Worth Airport will need to take a rideshare to the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center. Here are a few tips for getting to the resort:

      1. Ensure your rideshare app of choice is downloaded and ready with a form of payment.
      2. Double-check that you request a ride that can fit the number of individuals in your party (and your bags!).
      3. Follow the appropriate signage to the designated rideshare pickup location at the airport.
      4. Verify your ride before you get in. Safety is always of utmost concern.
      5. The Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center is only four miles from the airport. Once you arrive on the grounds, please ask the rideshare driver to drop you off at the convention center circle drive area.

Getting to the Airport From KLC:

We’ve got you covered here. Shuttles have been arranged to transport you from the hotel to the airport on Sunday between 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m. CT. Flights home will be scheduled no earlier than 2 p.m. so you have plenty of time to get to the airport and through security.

Any attendee departing the hotel outside of shuttle hours will be required to secure their own transportation. Transportation to and from the airport will not be reimbursed by the Fraternity.

Yes! When you register, we’ll place you in a room with officers from your chapter. Think leadership training by day and slumber party vibes at night! Use this time together to reflect on what you’ve learned each day, create lasting bonds with one another and have fun!

Don’t wander off! We know that traveling is fun and there’s so much to see, but all attendees will be required to stay on-site throughout the duration of KLC.

If you require a wheelchair-accessible room, please note that in your registration or contact klc@kappa.org.

Each day of KLC, we’ll be showing Dallas our Kappa and college spirit! There isn’t a strict dress code for KLC, but we recommend you keep it cute, comfortable and conference appropriate. Check out the theme for each day:

Friday: Kappa Takeover! Travel in your letters

Let everyone know that Kappa is in the house! Think comfy travel attire plus a Kappa letter T-shirt or sweatshirt. You may feel like freshening up before dinner but don’t worry about a wardrobe change. Come as you are!

Saturday: Go Team! Show off your college spirit

Let all the Kappas know where you’re from by repping your university gear. Swap stories with sisters from campuses near and far! Find a sister from a school that competes against yours and take a pic together so that the world knows there’s no such thing as sister rivalry.

Saturday night: It’s a country dance party

Let’s go, Kappas! Grab your denim, boots and hat because when the sun goes down, we’re running to the dance floor. Dallas’ premiere line dance instructors will be teaching you the latest country line dancing moves. So come dressed and ready to strut your stuff at Kappa’s own hoedown.

Sunday: Kappa Spirit! Rep the blue

It’s the last day of KLC, so show up and show out in Kappa blues and letters. You might want to be photo-ready to snap pics with all your new sister-friends or comfy and cool to hit the road. The choice is yours, but make it Kappa!

Other items you should bring with you include:

  • Bag
  • Water bottle
  • Jacket, sweater or sweatshirt for layering
  • Inside pages of the Book of Ritual

In alignment with our mission statement, Kappa Kappa Gamma is committed to the health, safety and well-being of our members, volunteers, delegates, staff and guests as our top priority. Kappa Kappa Gamma has created policies and guidelines for Kappa Leadership Conference for all attendees. It is our hope that these guidelines will provide the safe environment for all who attend.

COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement

Kappa Kappa Gamma will require all attendees to be vaccinated to protect against COVID-19. To be considered vaccinated for this event, all attendees must show proof of at least the first series of COVID-19 vaccinations. We have partnered with third-party vendor 42Chat to receive and safeguard this information ahead of Kappa Leadership Conference. Attendees will be notified directly by 42Chat via text to upload a copy of their vaccination documents, which must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. ET on Feb. 3.

There will be no exceptions to the vaccination policy. This protocol is expected to help ensure the health and safety of our attendees and comply with the minimum current CDC recommendations for large group gatherings.

Negative COVID-19 Test Requirement

All attendees will be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test. Prior to your arrival at Kappa Leadership Conference, attendees will receive another text from 42Chat requesting an upload of negative test results.

For more information, please view the COVID-19 policy and protocols document for Kappa Leadership Conference.

All chapters are asked to bring the inside pages of the Book of Ritual to KLC. You do not need to bring the binder or cipher.

One representative of your chapter will be returning the Book of Ritual to the Kappa staff at Kappa registration. Since you will be registering with Kappa before checking in with the hotel, pack your Book of Ritual in an easily accessible place so you can register and drop it off at Kappa registration, check in with the hotel, take your personal items to your room, and get ready for a great weekend of learning and meeting Kappas from all over North America.

Meet the keynote speaker: Abby Conway

Women are taught to compete; compete for opportunities, acknowledgment and space. Many efforts at women’s empowerment stop only at the competition.

What’s beyond it, though?

Abby Conway, Florida State, has an answer. Instead of focusing on competing with one another, we should focus on how brightly we can shine together. In this signature program, a fresh take on developing powerful relationships, she shares how we can nurture our own light while simultaneously multiplying that of other women. In our organizations, leadership positions and life beyond campus, the path to the future will be illuminated by the light we produce together.

Abby serves as the director of learning for the Center of Leadership Excellence. She has a wealth of expertise in leadership development for individuals and teams as well as group facilitation. Her knowledge stems from overseeing the collegiate experience for Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity and her own valuable experiences as a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.

She received a master’s in education from Indiana University Bloomington and a bachelor’s in education from Florida State University, where she joined Kappa. In her free time, she enjoys breaking a sweat at Orangetheory, traveling with friends and family, and spending time with her golden retriever, Joy.
