COLUMBUS, Ohio (April 21, 2015)—It is with sincere sadness that we share Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity has suspended chapter operations at its Beta Nu Chapter at The Ohio State University, effective immediately through May 7, 2017. This spring a comprehensive investigation by Kappa determined that Beta Nu Chapter violated Fraternity policies during an incident, including participation in hazing and inappropriate use of alcohol. Further, the Fraternity was both saddened and outraged to learn a new member was seriously injured during this unsanctioned event. Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity Bylaws and Policies make it clear that hazing in any form and/or illegal use or misuse of alcohol is absolutely prohibited, and any member who participates in or permits such activities will be subject to dismissal or other disciplinary action from the Fraternity.Despite the ongoing education and guidance provided to members of Beta Nu Chapter, the facts made it clear that the culture within the chapter needed to be changed. Nothing is more important to the Fraternity than the well-being, safety and security of its members.Kappa Kappa Gamma is an organization of strong values and a rich history, and the Fraternity has a responsibility to ensure all members uphold its standards. The events which occurred at Beta Nu Chapter will not be tolerated. The Fraternity will continue to work closely with The Ohio State University, which issued a two-year suspension of the chapter following its own investigation. Fraternity Council has great hope that Beta Nu Chapter will have the opportunity to rejoin the campus and become an outstanding member of The Ohio State University Greek community.
