Is being a Field Representative a real job?

    • Yes, it is a real job!
    • We are employees of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity, a nonprofit organization.
    • Similarly to any other organization or company, there is an application and hiring process. Employees are provided with salaries, benefits and training.

How do I get my parents on board? What did you tell your parents?

    • If you’re interested in attending graduate school, being a Field Representative is a great way to see different universities and experience campus life firsthand.
    • It is a paying job with benefits. Being a Field Representative will give you professional experience and a multitude of skills that will allow you to be successful and marketable in a variety of fields.
    • It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore North America, do something you’re really passionate about, and empower women!

What does the interview process look like?

There are two components to the interview process. The first is a two-on-one phone interview with the Field Representatives Chairman and the Fraternity Director of Talent Management. After the interview, you may be asked to fly to Columbus, Ohio, for an in-person interview.

    When did you graduate?

Most Field Representatives are recent graduates. Many of us are around 22 or 23 years old. This makes it easy for us to relate to the different facets of college life.

How do you fit everything in your suitcase?

Packing cubes are our favorite travel accessories! Almost all of us use them to keep our suitcases organized and to make items easier to access. Most of us travel with one large checked bag and one carry-on suitcase as well as a tote bag or backpack.

    How do you do laundry?

If we are traveling, we ask the chapters we’re visiting. We usually stay in the chapter house or with a member in her home or apartment. There are usually laundry facilities available for us to use.

    Where’s your home base?

If we are traveling, we don’t really have a home base. However, when we have weekends off, we have the opportunity to take side trips or go home. If we don’t want to make a side trip to another city, we have a list of alumnae who live across the U.S. and Canada who are willing to host us. Former Field Representatives are also great resources.

What are the career benefits of being a Field Representative? How will the experience benefit you later on in your career?

    • Relationship management know-how
    • Creative and analytical problem-solving skills
    • Decision-making capabilities
    • Conflict resolution abilities
    • Practice with public speaking and group facilitation
    • Coaching and mentoring experience
    • Communication and interpersonal skills
    • Crisis management practice

    Does Kappa cover travel costs?

Yes. The Fraternity covers the costs of chapter visits. However, if we have a weekend off and want to take a side trip, we are expected to pay our own way.

Do you ever have time off?

Yes. Typically, if we aren’t on a recruitment or Initiation visit, we have the weekend off.

    Are you a Kappa?

Yes! All Field Representatives are members of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity.

Is Chapter Council experience required to apply to be a Field Representative? Is it required to have been the chapter President?

There are no specific requirements regarding positions on Chapter Council. While many Field Representatives have been actively involved within their chapters, your leadership experience is not required to be chapter specific.
